How to make your home feel cosy this winter: 4 seriously simple tips

3 Dec, 2024

It’s cold, it’s rainy, it’s getting dark way too early, and guess what? We love it.

Decorating and styling spaces is kind of our thing so when we have the excuse to spend more time inside and make each room, nay, every square inch of the house feel exceedingly snuggly, we jump at the chance.

Luckily, you don’t have to be a master decorator to make your home feel more inviting this winter. Making small and simple changes to the layout, personalizing the space with treasured homeware items, or even switching out your throw cushion covers can make a world of difference. Need proof? That’s where we come in. We’ve put together the ultimate list of easy ways to cosy up your home this cold weather season. So start scrolling, take note of your favourites, and prepare to feel snugglier than ever before.

Break up With overhead lighting

The quickest way to make a room feel the exact opposite of cosy? Switch on the overhead lights. Harsh beams from above might be necessary in certain situations, but if you can avoid putting them on, we recommend you do so. Instead, look out for decorative table lamps that create a warm and welcoming glow. Perfect for reading, watching TV, and of course, frosty nights powered by fuzzy blankets and the gentle flicker of your favourite scented candles.

Invite the outside, inside

You know how chunky, knitted blankets make your sofa instantly comfier and more inviting? Well, styling your space with naturally-textured homeware pieces can create a calm and tranquil atmosphere for an entire room. Think countryside retreats with wood beam ceilings, decorative foliage and hand-stitched scatter cushions and you’ll get what we’re going for.

One simple way we incorporate depth and texture in our spaces is to house plants and floral arrangements in natural wood or stone receptacles. After all, bringing the beauty of the outside inside is a surefire way to lift your mood and calm your mind.

Create a soothing space with soft furnishings

Making your space feel warm and enticing doesn’t have to be a long or complicated process. The key to peak cosiness? Plenty of soft furnishings.

Style your sofa with textured scatter cushions and multiple fleece-lined blankets. Try double duvets on the bed for a chic hotel aesthetic that keeps you twice as warm at night. Or, our favourite winter hack, position a small faux fur rug next to the bed to combat cold floors. Make softening the space your goal and the cosiness will follow.

Don’t forget about the walls

Picking out the perfect wallpaper or paint colour is a great start, but it doesn’t mean your walls are finished. Hanging artwork that speaks to you and brings you joy is just as, if not more important than styling your coffee table or dressing your sofa. Not to mention, it makes a space feel infinitely more personal, intentionally styled, and, of course, cosier.

Now, textured art pieces in warm colour tones might be the obvious choice when trying to cosy up your home. But, as long as the art you choose makes you feel something, the warm and fuzzies are practically guaranteed. Go with your gut, fill your spaces with smile-inducing work and we promise you’ll want to spend many a chilly evening in the cosy comfort of your own home.
