Spring Is Coming: Simple Home Decor Ideas That’ll Make A Genuine Difference To Your Space

3 Apr, 2025

This is not a drill people — spring has officially arrived! For a minute there it felt like winter would never end, but now that the days are a little longer and the mornings a little brighter, we’re ready and raring to refresh our spaces.

If you’re just as eager as we are to shake off the cobwebs and give your home lil lift for the season ahead and beyond, keep reading. From how to choose investment-worthy pieces you’ll one day pass down as treasured family heirlooms to styling sustainably with the furniture and decor items you already own, our fail-proof list of genuinely simple, beginner-friendly decor tips will make a world of difference to your home.

Declutter & Clean The Space

Before you start adding to or rearranging your spaces, it’s time to clean and declutter your home from top to bottom. It’s the least fun part, but it feels so good when it’s done!

Assess what you have as you go and remove the things that no longer serve you, your space, or your lifestyle. Once you have a clean, organised slate, making decisions on your spring home decor refresh will be so much easier.

Update Dominant Accessories

What are dominant accessories? Step back in your space and observe which pieces immediately capture your attention. Don’t overthink it, simply scan the room and take note of any items stealing focus. These are your dominant accessories. Unsure? Sofa cushions, throws, bedding, rugs, and lighting fixtures are always a great place to start.

Forget about buying a whole new sofa because you’re bored with the one you have. Instead, update your decorative cushions by introducing a new print, fabric, or colourway. Watch them revive your sofa and make it feel new and interesting again. The extra large, hand-sewn, Sol bean bag cushion by Jessie de Salis is top of our wish list. With a sage green colourway, and screen-printed suns and geometric circles on natural linen fabric, each cushion is unique and couldn’t be more perfect for spring and summer.

Additionally, we’ll always recommend adding statement lighting, like Studio Mooky’s stunning, hand-painted porcelain lamp, to an existing end table. It’ll light up a whole new section of your room and add heaps of character making the space feel brighter, larger, and more internationally designed.

In the bedroom, a fresh set of sheets or a new duvet and pillow covers will make your sleeping sanctuary feel refreshed and renewed. These small and simple changes are surprisingly impactful and couldn’t be easier to implement.

Set The Scene (And The Table)

Just as romanticising day-to-day activities improves your week, romanticising different areas of your space can make your home feel like an incredible place to be.

Stack your favourite coffee table books on the coffee table. Place your favourite mug next to the machine ready for your morning coffee. And, set your dining table with beautiful place settings ready for candle-lit dates and dinner parties at all times. Finish off your setup with the Bahaus napkins and tablecloth by Jessie de Salis. Exclusive to DesignSnitch and printed by hand in Jessie’s Somerset studio, they’re the ultimate sustainable spring/summer accessory for impromptu dinner plans on warm spring and summer nights.

Rearrange Your Furniture

Nothing makes a room feel newly inviting like rearranging the floorplan. So, if you have the space to do so, pretend you’ve just moved into the space and refresh that tired layout. Play around with the furniture arrangements and art placements and don’t be afraid to be bold. Our go-to tips?

1. Shift your bed to the centre of the room instead of having it pressed up against the wall

2. Move your sofa to a spot in the living room you’ve never tried before

3. Change the placement of your favourite floor lamp to light up different corners of the room

4. Add a new focal piece of furniture to the room

Switching out your sofa, adding a statement armchair, or bringing in a new coffee table are all great examples. Not essential, but you’ll be surprised just how quickly the vibe and intention of a room can shift with just one new statement piece!

Need some styling inspo? Upgrading the central focus of your seating area with a piece like the Plateau coffee table by Hew will totally transform the room. Built by hand with sturdy octagonal legs and a striking sycamore tabletop, it’s the most stunning conversation starter and a perfect example of expert craftsmanship.

Embrace Spring With Colourful Artwork

Curating colourful works of art for your home is one of the simplest and most effective ways to transform a space. And, now that spring is here and summer hot on its heels, we highly recommend leaning into brighter shades and playful motifs to embrace the season.

First, try adding smaller framed pieces to otherwise neutral spaces. A whimsical print or a vibrant mini canvas can add instant charm to a formerly blank wall space, entryway table, or kitchen countertop.

Meanwhile, large-scale artwork, that draws the up and out will create visual impact and can even help rooms feel bigger and brighter than they truly are. Paintings and prints are a popular option, but if you’re looking for something a little more unique, luxe, and in keeping with the season, a fabric wall hanging like At My Table from Made by Gee, will serve the space even better.

Each premium cotton fabric hanger is made to order and carefully finished in-house with handcrafted wooden dowels for a polished presentation.

Shop Your Own Home

Honestly, we get it, new things are great. But contrary to popular belief, you don’t need to purchase new furniture and decor pieces every time you want to refresh a room in your house. Instead, scratch the itch to redecorate by shopping your own home.

How? Walk around every room in your home and take in everything you have. Make a note of the potted plants, the artwork, the coffee table books, and ask yourself, do they still work where they are? Or could they shine better somewhere else?

A more extreme approach but one that we think is infinitely more fun, go around your home and physically remove all of the decor items you have from each space. Bring them all together in one place so you can see everything you have at once. Take in all you’ve acquired over the years and reevaluate where to put them. It’s surprising how seeing something old in a brand-new spot can make you fall back in love with it. If not, simply donate, gift, or sell them.

Add Fresh Flowers

Bringing fresh flowers into your space has countless benefits. Honestly, more than we realised!

1. Flowers, or greenery if you prefer, can help to boost your mood

2. They’ll keep you in touch with nature when you’re stuck inside all-day

3. Their gentle floral scent will fill the air, making your decor scheme an experience for all senses

4. Taking the time to acquire, arrange, and display flowers in a space makes the decor feel more intentional

5. Finally, flowers add a subtle hint of colour which can be used to compliment the other hues already in the room or bring a singular moment of colour to an otherwise neutral setting.

Allow your flowers to shine and display yours inside a hand-crafted vessel that reflects their natural beauty. The Linea Taper vase by Bird & Branch Turnery, for example, will bring a touch of elegance to your decor and contrast beautifully with any floral arrangement inside.

A one-of-a-kind iteration of the brand’s acclaimed Linea taper vase, this ebonised version is inspired by wheel-thrown pottery with each line cut by hand with mindful precision. Originally developed for Michelin-starred table settings, it’s the ideal vase for design connoisseurs who truly appreciate and actively champion sustainable, hand-crafted items.
